Description: The Red Fox has a lithe body with a long bushy tail, long legs and four toed feet with non-retractable claws. They measure up to 110cm including the tail and can be up to 40cm in height. They are a reddish brown colour with blacks and usually a white tail tip. Many have a white bib on the throat. They are a semi-solitary animal, but family groups of male (dog) and several females (vixens) are also common. Mating takes place from December to February. At this time of year the animals cause complaints due to their barking and screaming mating calls. Cubs are born March-May and the average size of a litter is 5. Young cubs remain with the vixen until they are 3 to 4 months old. An average life span of a fox is 9 years.
